The financial crisis of 2008-09 was an eye-opener for a number of people as it forced them to realise the importance of liquidity and transparency.
As a result, bankruptcy filings in the advanced economies, both business and personal, rose at an accelerated rate in 2009. The ongoing financial crisis posed major challenges to policy makers and regulators as they attempted to stabilize financial markets and prevent the slide of the global economy from its deepest synchronized recession in 60 years into possible depression. However, lessons were learnt from the Great Depression: the monetary, financial and fiscal stimulus response was unprecedented. Although we are not out of the tunnel yet, initial signs seem to show that the global response is starting to work.
